Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.990

29 Jul 2020 01:33

OK. Did a bit of more debugging and I think I found the issue and a workaround:
- Re-installed SE
- took a vanilla backup of the common/SE folder
- launched (#1), worked! (btw, I can't seem to control my camera with the spacenavigator, i get into a constant spin)
-- now, I have 3x 4K monitors, so at this point I moved my main window to the middle monitor (SE opens on the left one which is the main windows display)
- exited SE
- launched again (#2), DIDN'T work
- removed \joy_3Dconnexion_KMJ_Emulator.cfg and \joy_SpaceNavigator.cfg
- launched again (#3), DIDN't work
- removed ALL config files (back to vanilla install)
- launched again (#4), SE opens on my main display on the left, DOES work! (we are on to something)
-- resized my window, but left SE on the left-hand side monitor
- launched again (#5), SE opens on main display on a resized window, WORKS!!!! (we are definitely on to something - definitely not the 3dconnexion suspicion)
- moved the window to middle monitor, still resized smaller, exited
- launched again (#6), SE opens now on middle monitor, DOESN'T work!!!!
- moved the "Non responding" window to left monitor (main), and closed SE
- launched again (#7), SE wants to open on middle monitor despite having moved it to the left one, DOES not work
- edited "main-user.cfg" and set     WindowPosX/Y to 0
- launched again (#8), SE opens on (0,0) left monitor, and as expected it now WORKS!!

I repeated this a couple of times and I can guarantee now that when the position of my window is beyond the x-coordinate of my first monitor, things get nasty. My workaround is to move the window to my main display with an X coordinate between (0, 3840) in order to ensure the next time it will work.

Happy that I can still enjoy SE, but maybe something to be fixed here?

Thanks

Glitching textures of the planets. Sometimes, when I play SE and fly close to the planets, the textures start to glitch: pieces of the planet start to move in different places, some parts start to glow like a star, etc. I reintsalled the game many times, but it still happens

Have you made sure "texture compression" is unchecked?

I recall having something like this happen when I had it enabled.

Delete the 'cache' folder in the SpaceEngine directory.

Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.990

Hi, I am kinda new to Space Engine's website. I have a problem with viewing earth, its sea level is very low and most continents have these gigantic coastlines lol. I tried searching on google about this problem but no one else seemed to have it.

Do you mean this?

Everyone has this problem with the earth in SE 0.990. It's because of the textures. There will be an update for this at some point.
But I can't tell you when.

CubeMap not running - help?

Hello!
I'm somewhat new to the SpaceEngine community and have been attempting to use CubeMap to create some custom planet textures. (for reference, I'm on Windows 10). I have successfully downloaded CubeMap and all of the additional necessary .dll files. I'm also using Irfanview (as I've seen it commonly reccomended by community members) to convert my .png square maps to .raw files so that CubeMap can use them. I've also created a custom .ccf file specific to my tester map, and I've been following the instructions at http://spaceengine.org/manual/making-addons/planet-textures/ as closely as I can. Unfortunately, whenever I try and run the application from the command line, I get this error:

Image
Application error: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).

I've done a lot of googling, as well as searching across the subreddit (where I posted a duplicate of this question) and this forum, but I haven't found anything that's worked yet. I've tried restarting my computer, running from an administrator mode command line prompt, running CubeMap in compatibility mode, running compatibility troubleshooter, updating my .NET framework, and checking my OS for updates (I am fully up to date). I still get this same error every time, and have absolutely no idea how to fix it. If anyone else has had the same issue, I could really use some help with this! Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

With the latest update I have some problems with the star browser... When I perform a search with multiple parameters in a range of over 200/250 light years the browser gets stuck... it keeps alternating different values for the total number of stars, without ever starting the search.
strangely, the only way I've found to make this work is to start a video recording...

Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out why I cannot save locations via the locations dialog box in the latest release? Nothing happens when I hit the save button.

Try again, then close the program and upload here your se.log, you'll find it in spaceengine /system folder

Your file is not available. You should be able to upload it here by simply using the "Add files" button at the bottom.

I can’t open SpaceEngine in Steam. I updated all my drivers and deleted all the files yesterday. I downloaded it again, but the problem still exists. Ask for help. I uploaded the compressed SE file.
