Can My PC Run SpaceEngine?

16 Aug 2019 10:34

Hi,

I am looking to get a new PC because of SE.

Space is limited for me so lookmg at this:

Intel NUC8i7HVK Hades Canyon VR Gaming NUC, i7-8809G w/ Radeon RX Vega

Woudl it be suitable for SE, please?

I have PC that can run FSX, Elite, Subnautica but fail when trying to run SE, so considering upgrading.

Regards

My laptop is i7 and Nvidia GeForce 940MX.
Maybe your specifications are not the problem. I have a laptop i5 with Geforce 940M, 2GB VRAM, so with lower specs than yours, and SpaceEngine 0990 works well enough, with medium-low settings, but it's stable.
Please use https://pastebin.com/  to post your se.log file, which is located in your <SteamFolder>\steamapps\common\SpaceEngine\system folder, and give us here the address of the file.
Thank you, I iwll post my log file. Not played with it much, disappointedly, becuase cannot get it to work.

fail when trying to run SE
You could try updating your video card driver.
Yours is not up to date anymore.

I have  updated my video drivers and still no joy!

It opens with the screen showing options, such as, Planetarium etc and sound plays, then it just closes after about five minutes or so.

This is the new se.log file:

Any other suggestions  please as very frustrating not able to use it as yet.

Maybe you should have your installation checked by Steam. Perhaps some file is broken.

Thank you for your help and ideas.

Sorry for delay in reply but last few days beed trying to solve the issue.

Laptop Dell Latittude 17 2-in-1:

I did a complete reset of my system, drastic, I know. Only installed the OS and MS Office 365. Then Steam followed by SE.
It ran and worked!

Then I installed my other games/software in turn, running them after install, then running SE to make sure all still good.

Good news, yes all good!!

Laptop HP Specter X360:

On this laptop, had the idea to jiust remove all Steam games and Steam, then deleted any steam folders.

I then installed Steam, then SE and it worked!

Then I continued to install my other Stame games/software and SE still works.

So a busy few dasy biut SE is working so far, I am still got to run a few games for the first time on both laptops then SE atfer each so testing not quiet complete yet but confident all going to be good.

Maybe, someone may have an idea why this is so or whether I have too many Steam games/software, some old oens too and they upset things when I ran them.

Cheers
A happy SE player!

Can My PC Run SpaceEngine?

13 Nov 2019 11:02

Good day!

I am currently building a new PC to play SE (planned CPU 9400F+16G RAM+NVME SSD), and I have a question regarding the selection of video card, the three options I am considering are: 1660 Ti, 2060 and 2060 Super, according to your recommended list all these three should do the job, but my question is, is there any difference between these three options with the highest visual setting? The price for them are roughly $250, $300, $380, if 1660 Ti can already smoothly run at the highest setting and has no difference with the other two, probably I will go with it, but if 2060 or 2060 super has significant better performance than 1660 Ti, then I am willing to spend the extra bucks. And also since I do not play other games, so this new computer probably will stay for 7-8 years (my first T43 lasted 8 years and the successor X220 lasted 7 years and is still serving now without any issue, but it can not run SE 0.99 that's the reason I want to build a new PC), under this premise, which one should I choose? I also want to make sure that the card I choose now can support future SE new versions until I shall get a new PC in maybe 7-8 years from now, not sure if it is possible but I hope so. Appreciate your professional suggestion, thanks a lot!

And also I see that 1660Ti is not marked green while the 2060 and 2060 Super are, is there any specific reason for that, and does it mean 1660 Ti has significant performance gap with 2060 and 2060 super when running under the highest setting? Please advise, thanks a lot!

thats weird because the 1060 6 GB was one of the cards SE was tested on.  I run it with that at highest settings.

Ryan123456789, that computer is just barely good enough to run the program. You can buy the program on Steam, the link is on the homepage.

First of all, I want to congratulate your work on Space Engine :)

For the moment I have only SE 0.980. I run it on a resolution of 1536x801. My laptop specifications:
- Intel Core i5-7200U
- NVIDIA GeForce 940MX
- 8 GB RAM
The program works quite fine, it strains my computer a bit, but I guess it's nothing serious (maybe it supposed to).

I'd like to buy the 0.900 version. And I'm planning to buy myself a laptop with the following specifications:
- Intel Core i5-9300H
- NVIDIA GeForce GFX 1650
- 8 GB RAM
I hope it will be fine to run SE and play it nicely, at least in the same resulution (pcgamebenchmark.com says that the recommended requirements for the GPU are met at 95%, and the result still says PASS).

I also have a question:
Since you are working on the final version, do you plan on yet improving the simulator so that it will require an even better equipment? Or will this only be some final cosmetics?

Thank you in advance!

Thanks for this resource, much appreciated! I'll have to play around with the graphics settings some more because right now I am getting massive frame drops (red lines) even on a 2070 Super/ 9900k.
