Space Engine and other games crash at 4gb of ram despite 8 gb avail

30 Jun 2018 22:33

Naturally, as the title says. I like to fly SE and play other graphics heavy games for hours on end, and pretty much all of them crash once they have used 4 gigs of RAM, even though I have 8 gb. Is there any way I can fix this?
Specs: Dell Inspiron 5547 (Laptop); 8 gigabytes of RAM; Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4210U CPU @ 1.70GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz; Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit; Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 4400 (That's all there is :( )

SE is a 32 bit program. (Probably the other programs too.) 32-bit programs can only address 4 gigabytes of ram. Therefore you can have as much memory as you want, it does not help you.
However, these programs should not use up this memory. They should either release the memory dynamically or at least issue a warning that they are approaching this limit.
