Here you can post titles or links of songs and musical tracks you enjoy listening to while playing Space Engine, or really emphasize the atmosphere and feel of Space Engine. Who knows; Maybe some will be added to the game!

I have a few songs in mind already, but this is a recent one I found today. I think it's really nice with it's ambiance.

Two Steps From Hell - Victory, although it is a little too fast-paced, it is really nice :)
Space is too big to understand, so do not try to understand.

I am in the process of making an album (maybe 10 songs in total) based around this game. So far I have 3 songs.

https://soundcloud.com/octavermusic

The soundtrack of the game is great and I am having a fun time making tracks to capture the feeling of wonder and awe of the game.

Also if the samples I used in 'Venus' and 'Space Walk' would be a problem I have versions without them I can provide.

You should try something similar to Minecraft's music where it's calm and such. ;D

spaceguy, that's a good suggestion. I definitely want the album to be dynamic and not stick to one mood.

These are great tracks to listen to while exploring in Space Engine! "Space Walk" reminds me of C418's Minecraft tracks (not necessarily negative), "Foreign World" is too fast and the beat stands out too much and reminds me of some of Kelly Bailey's Half Life tracks (what I like). Some tracks could use lighter beats. "In Orbit" and "Rings" are the most suitable for Space Engine in my opinion.

besides that I started making music, this is my first track (inspired by Space Engine): https://soundcloud.com/ole-a-sprtr888/disc-compass

A little too... I don't know, peppy, for my taste. Doesn't fit so well with the SE soundtrack.

My suggestions:

Infinity has some incredible music, but I doubt SE will be able to use it. So we'll just have to mod it in:

And here's some space-themed Bill Douglas:

Music should be optional.
What do you mean by that?
You can turn off the music by setting the volume to 0. (Ctrl F12)

Pretty much anything by Astropilot works for Space Engine. The existing tracks in the engine are already among the best songs.

Music you say? Music can be essential to setting the mood and pace of almost anything, Space Engine being no exception. Since music is one of my passions, I simply must share my selections with the forum - else I may implode.

So called space ambient music as a venue of choice is practically a no-brainer. The actual definition of it is rather vague though, and can range from anything, from electronic to drone. Personally, I find anything with more beats then say, trance or psychill to be overbearing. Definitely nothing like orchestral rock or pop (no offense). It is just a matter of environment - space is vast and more or less infinite. Things move in it with unstoppable serenity through black voids of floating particles - all in a state absolute cold silence so deafening it ruptures the ears. Sound vibrations from stars etc. exist, but there are so few things that they can interact with to make much of a ring.
The music should reflect that - as you fly through nebulae, boo around orbiting ships, dive through exotic atmospheres and touch down upon alien landscapes or just gaze at the stars around you.

To start with, Simon Heath's Sabled Sun albums from Cryochamber are a great, high-quality start:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=sabled+sun
Perhaps the greatest for flying through space as you sit in a darkened room:

Telomere's album "Lux Primordia" is also stimulating:

Any "Sonus Lab" track was practically MADE for SE, and also incidentally aids in sleeping:
https://sonuslab.bandcamp.com/

A favorite:

Also of Cryo Chamber fame(https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/), "Alphaxone" has some awesome space ambient, like Edge of Solitude:
https://alphaxone.bandcamp.com/album/edge-of-solitude

Stardust (with ProtoU): https://alphaxone.bandcamp.com/album/stardust

and Echoes from Outer Silence: https://alphaxone.bandcamp.com/album/ec ... er-silence

NASA's Symphonies of the Planets are the actual sounds of our solar systems planets (well not really, they are magnetic readings of the Voyager probes and other crafts put through a synthesizer and then tweaked for greater audial enjoyment) but are still REALLY cool. Look around for the individual tracks for each planet, but here is the complete album(s):

"Sphare Sechs", also of Cryochamber, is space ambient at its finest (some might find it boring):

An artist called "CO.AG Music" releases interesting music with themes from various media sources, often outer-space scifi-ish, and are copy-right free, so I could see SE maybe featuring this music in the future: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcavSf ... WwLDm_bNvA
A personal favorite for exploring SE with:

Trivia: the humming tone used by the artist for the music shows up in the original Bladerunner film in Rick Deckard's apartment, as well as aboard the "Nostromo" in the original Alien movie (though fainter).

"Askprojekt" is good: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... ce+ambient

An artist which many may or may not be aware of is "Julien H Mulder", who makes high-quality dark ambient space music I find chilling: https://www.youtube.com/user/julienhmulder

From the 90's, comes another good space-ambient artist, "S.E.T.I" (Most definitely to be confused with the project of the same name :D): http://ambientmusicguide.com/a-z-essent ... r-deupree/

The up and coming artist Markus Junnikkala on YouTube has an album called "Andromeda" that is pretty similar to the music in SE already:

Anything made by "Stellardrone" is of course pure sonic gold, as been mentioned before by previous posts:
https://stellardrone.bandcamp.com/

There is an actual YouTube channel (which now appears to be non-maintained sadly - I am not entirely sure), called "SpaceAmbient" (https://www.youtube.com/user/SpaceAmbient), of which Stellardrone is featured, that has TONS of good music from various artists - too many to list here - go check 'em out.

When it comes to pre-mixed albums of space music, YouTube channels like "JediMaster" (https://www.youtube.com/user/RaverJedi)or "AmbientEpicuros" (https://www.youtube.com/user/TheAmbientepicuros) are very good, the latter being more of psychill, a simple search will turn up tons of these - most of which are very long.

Some of Musica Cthulhiana's tracks are outer-spacey, like "Atmospheres", of the album "The Unnameable", and various tracks from the album "The 4th" ( https://cthulhumusic.com/). Dark horror Ambient can be viable space music - remember, no one can here you scream in space - unless you bump helmets.

Hmmmm, listening to Vangelis can be interesting too.

These are just my suggestions, and although I would like to hear some of these in Space Engine, it is my hope that before then, others may enjoy them with the game via modding or just with an mp3.
