General questions about SpaceEngine

14 Apr 2020 01:42

If I want to use the nebula editor I always get the message "select an object", but I'm not able to select the object (e.g the Andromeda Nebula)
This is probably because you cannot edit galaxies and sprite nebulae in the in-game editor.
The editor only works for stars, planets and so on. And for ray tracing nebulae.

Procedural Galaxies.

15 Apr 2020 22:39

Will completely procedural models for spiral, lenticular and irregular galaxies be possible? It could maybe happen, we already have it with nebulae.
With the amount of bizarre creatures on Earth, I doubt aliens would look like humans with skull deformations or skin conditions.

This question does not require its own thread.
I've moved your post to a better fitting thread.

General questions about SpaceEngine

Many thanks, Jack! Your answer leads me to two further questions:

1) What purpose saves the Nebula Editor?
2) Is it possible to change the destination during a flight? For Example: I selected M 31, would it be possible to select another galaxy during the flight in order to jump from one galaxy e.g of the local group to another

Best

1) What purpose saves the Nebula Editor?
The nebula editor is for editing raytracing nebulae. These are all procedurally generated nebulae, the names beginning with 'RN'.

Really existing nebulae are mostly so-called sprite nebulae and cannot be edited with the editor.

2) Is it possible to change the destination during a flight?
I think it is not possible to select an other object during a 'flight'. But you can cancel the flight with the ESC key and then select another destination.

General questions about SpaceEngine

09 May 2020 08:47

Hey, it's me again. I have stopped using SpaceEngine for a couple of months but I have recently tried to get into it. As for the aforementioned problem in my last post, it was fixed when I made the window smaller and then full-screened it again. SpaceEngine was working fine up until I stopped using it, but now it says I have an error loading texture shaders. I tried updating my driver, but Windows said that it was up to date. I remember updating my driver before when I first started using SpaceEngine, but I couldn't roll back to it. I have tried setting IgnoreCrtiticalCheck to true, as I read about it on the old Space Engine forum. I have Windows 10 and my computer meets the requirements for SpaceEngine last time I checked. Is it perhaps a new update of SpaceEngine? Sorry if I sound ignorant, I haven't been reading a lot of pages on the forum.

General questions about SpaceEngine

SE 0980 is a legacy version that won't be updated anymore. According to your log, your Intel HD Graphics drivers from 2015 do not support OpenGL 3.3 which is used by SE 0980. Depending on what version of windows 10 you have, your graphic card won't receive new updates from microsoft, if there are more recent drivers they probably are somewhere in the download section of the Intel website.

General questions about SpaceEngine

I went to the Intel website and it said that there was one driver that I could install. However, it wasn't able to download on my computer and none of the troubleshooting steps worked. I remember that I could use SE with my current specs from Late February to mid-March when I stopped using it, so the change must've happened between then and now. Is it possible for me to revert back to older versions of SE that could be supported by my current specs?

Here you can find older versions, The one before 0.980 (30.07.2016) was 0.972 patched with 0.973 in 2015:  http://forum.spaceengine.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=182
Unless you installed some addon that is creating issues in your version, nothing changed since 2016 in SE 0980, so if it worked in February something else happened in your system. I'd try and remove everything you have under the /addons folder, just to be sure.

Nevermind, after trying to launch SpaceEngine one more time it magically worked. It might've been the deleting of the one file in the addons, thank you so much!

General questions about SpaceEngine

Is there a mechanism for marking a list of objects, akin to an observing list in Sky Safari?  For example, I am wanting to see the relative position of several X-ray binaries with respect to Earth and the Milky Way.  I can see any one of them at a time: F3, type in the name, and then I see that one.  But I can't seem to figure out how to mark all three at once.   Even a simple "x marks the spot" would do though ideally, I'd like to have the short list of objects labeled.  Thanks.

Unfortunately no, there's not yet a way to do that with multiple objects.
