I request shadows

That's all I had to say. I request shadows. Not the huge planet ones but usual ingame shadows for ships, trees and rocks. Why still no shadows?

Short answer:  Lots of work

Long answer:  SE's current lighting system is a fairly simplistic analytic system, overhauling such a system to support shadow maps and advanced self shadowing would be an extensive overhaul to the engine.

Such an update is of course planned, but right now there are a lot more important things to correct, fix, and update before such an effort can be made.

Our team is small, few programmers, so patience is the most that can be asked.

Whats the deal with a water texture. My understanding is that water is generated as a plane that covers whole planet at specific height. Can you just replace that texture with a better one, that has waves and looks more realistic?

Then enlarge it. So many people write on the forum they are ready to work even for free. There were no serious updates for about 2 years. How many more can we read the "we are small team" answer?

Welcome to an exclusive club with thousands of members.
How many more can we read the "we are small team" answer?
I'm afraid that "enlarge it" is precisely the goal of the team. How this is going to happen I'm sure is determined by several circumstances.
I'm going to quote Vladimir here, a post that you surely missed.
Relax. There are many reasons why development is slow.

1) Having money does not mean having a good team. We hired some programmers, and they worked for a while, but leave. Managing team is not easy.
2) We don't have that much money. Only for 2-3 programmers. We have 2 now, including myself.
3) I have a baby, so can't work 24/7 like before:)

Slowly, but we making progress. We have prototypes of 3D rings, clouds, accretion disks, and many improvements for ships. But turning prototype to a release feature is a long path. Rings are closest to release, I except few months.

Maybe I must restore a habit to post screenshots is the dev thread on this forum. I still do that, but in discord channel of our dev/admin team.

No, I've seen it. There he explained he can not be a leader of a team which is obviously not the news we were waiting. Also he said he will show some screenshots and then didn't.

I have been working on getting more people, with little luck for the skills required.  Many who have offered to work for free lack the required experience to do what needs to be done.  Programmers are always in high demand.

Well, then Space engine is doomed.
Why do you say so? The features that are in developing are very complicated to implement.
I agree with you that will never became massively famous because of the slow development speed, but it doesn't mean it's doomed, just that it will be confined having a small but affectionate community forever, and it will never cease to be a niche product unless they start to do some serious marketing to have a greater revenue.
Do you know the difference between and Indie game and an AAA game? It's not even a Software house producing it...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You get used to it, he has every right to think and feel the way he does really. I don't agree that SE is doomed, but I do agree the team and development process can do better.

There is a universe with trillions of worlds to explore in SE , I dont see the need for updates more than once a year or so.

Space Engine is already a success.  Any added feature or fix over the past ten year ago is a bonus.

Unless you're one who hired a programmer to implement a certainly feature, you're not in a position complain about the progress.

I requested ice halos, I don't know - almost 10 years ago? (my profile image is a reminder) - but can wait indefinitely unless I can add it myself or sponsor it.

Halos could be added as a 2d png texture with small shining effect which is auto-enabled if the camera is
1. In atmosphere
and
2. In a low temperature zone.
That's all it takes. It's one day of work.

And that right there is the difference between doing something fast and doing something right. The result from that method would be hideously inaccurate, and anyone who knows anything about the physics of ice halos (like midtskogen) would cringe so hard looking at it.
