Global list of suggestions

03 Nov 2016 03:48

This thread is an attempt to catalog all(or most) suggestions for SE made on this forum. Most suggestions(especially those in the "general suggestions thread") tend to get buried rapidly, and eventually are forgotten, lost to time. A global, easily-visible compilation of suggestions would help alleviate this problem, at least partially.

Good idea, DeathStar. Don't get sad because no one replied to you, this is more of a topic that people look at without posting anything. :)

Sooo are you taking charge of compiling all the common suggestions yourself, or are we supposed to repost them in this thread?

If it helps, I seem to frequently see people asking for the following:
- Plants / animals on planet surfaces; I think the status is unlikely
- [Insert trending new star system here, e.g. TRAPPIST-1, KIC-8467267, etc.]; status Planned for next version always every time so don't bother asking ;P
- NPC spaceships; uncertain status
- "Make the gameplay so you play as such-and-such and you do this and that with your ship and so on and so forth with the economy and PvP and yadda yadda yadda..."; status: SpaceEngineer already has a plan for the gameplay.
- Functional wormholes; natural not planned, artificial planned eventually.

I thought that there was no interest in this, hence not updating it. However, I can add some of the more common suggestions within the last few months, to make the thread more up-to-date.

This is more of a topic that people look at and less of a topic that people post at ;)

That would be nice! ;)

I would like to suggest to make the Ambient Lighting default to 0.01 (or 0.02) instead of zero.
I think zero makes the planet's dark sides way too dark...looks like a black hole sometimes.
Setting to 0.02 (can't set 0.01 in the SE right now) at least make it feel like a bit of indirect lighting is revealing the dark side.

Post suggestions in the General suggestions for Space Engine thread. This thread is for showing the time until some commonly suggested things will be implemented and stuff like that.

Also, the default ambient lightning raise would only be realistic inside a globular cluster, inside the extreme central region of a galaxy, and other such scenarios, but nice suggestion ;)

Yeah, 0.02 lighting is already unrealistic, I agree. Thats why I suggest 0.01 but maybe it could be lower.
But putting the suggestion aside, here is an astronomy question:
Even for a planet that has atmosphere like Venus the dark side really is that dark like shown in SE? (I mean with ambient light set to zero). I'm ignorant in the matter... there would really be no minimal indirect light from the atmosphere reflection or something?
(sorry for the off-topic)

It would be as dark as on cloudy moonless night on Earth (far from cities of course), and even more, considering thick atmosphere.

I'm having a really silly problem - something seems to have changed on the forum, and I'm unable to find the edit button. Does anyone know where it is?

To create your own thread and edit a post, you have first to make some posts in existing threads.
This was not the case from the beginning! So it was possible for you to create this thread!
But now you have to make some posts to unlock again these possibilities!
I believe 10.

Thanks for the information. I'll update the thread when I reach 10 posts.
