General suggestions for SpaceEngine

I'm sorry, something went wrong with the first post, and I have no idea how to delete it.

I was wondering if it's possible to have such luminous surrounding galaxy that it would be almost as bright at the night as at day.

However it seems it's not possible, without moons you always see nothing at night side, no matter how dense the galaxy neighborhood is.

Here is the extreme case.
se://v=990&n=Planet%20Frigid%20subjupit ... =1&f=2&e=0
The M87 Black hole's accretion disk is so bright that at close distance it's more bright than nearby star. However as you can see, it does not affect night side of a planet at all.

I wonder, is this being worked on? The night sides of planets in supermassive galaxies look very unrealistic right now...

Dear SpaceEngineer,

I am utterly blown away by the quality of SpaceEngine 0.990, genuinely amazing work. Thank you.

When you've had a well-earned rest, I'd love to see a network socket that I could connect to, to get real-time data about the current state of the simulation - starting with lat/lon/alt, velocity vectors, current selected object ID, etc. I'm a developer too, and I'd use this information to:
1) build a moving map display on another computer, showing basic global position, or for Solar System objects - nearest waypoints/countries/cities/lunar craters etc.
2) hook up with Arduino/RaspberryPi electronics, etc, for really cool physical cockpit readouts, LED displays, etc.

X-Plane does something similar, where you can choose which data items you want it to send, and how often. It actually allows you to write back values into the simulation as well, but I'm not proposing anything that complicated. ;)

Thanks for reading,

Duncan.

Sort the "Find Object" dialog by Type

I just want to see Nebulae and Black Holes, but it's a pain to find them. And the Star Browser can only go so far.

Can we please Sort by Type?

Hi, I just wanted to address an issue that's kind of weird but not exactly a bug or anything like that. I'm unable to hear any audio while in oculus vr mode, and at first I thought it was just a bug, but then I realized that the fact that i was using a wireless headset instead of rift audio is the most likely culprit.

This is my assumption because when I use steamvr audio works just fine; it's only when I use oculus vr mode that I get no audio whatsoever. So why is this the case? My educated guess is that SE defaults to Rift Audio exclusively in oculus vr mode. My request is a simple one: an option to change the in-game audio source.

Here's hoping you guys see this soon :D and of course, thank you so much!!! Other than that 0.9.9.0 is incredible beyond words, you guys are amazing!

Use HDR. Also, what's your basis for the planets being too bright with auto exposure?

If i change colors for CloudsPalette, OceanPalette, Biome etc., RGB Buttons with Hexadecimal are better.

https://imgur.com/BYzpTk5

Example:

RGB Standard:

R: 0
G: 255
B: 255

If i enter FFFF00 in Hexadecimal Button, RGB change to R: 255 G: 255 B: 0

and a Button to randomize colors from R: 0 G: 0 B: 0 to R: 255 G: 255 B: 255 for Palettes

I'd like the solar system chart to highlight worlds with life in green, like the system browser does.

SpaceEngineer said on the old forum that it currently isn't possible for planets to be illuminated by light sources outside their solar system, but improving this is on his to-do list for generating realistic quasars.

This kind of bright :

In fact I don't know if it's more realistic, never been myself in space looking at a planet. But he fact that the planet appears totally white when viewing from a relative close distance (like in the first screenshot) is unpleasant to me, and the problem with HDR is that you can see too much of the background when looking at a lightsource. In short, I would like a setting closer to the old "simple auto exposure" one.

Maybe a statistic in the wiki showing ocean cover (percentage and/or surface area) would be interesting? Especially for people who use this as a tool to worldbuild or make maps.

I bought the game today and I have a problem: it freezes when I try to change the graphics. I have the game in another account.
I try to put the graphics in Ultra or High and the game freezes. The same goes for the FXAA, Vsync and more.

Thank you.

Hey all,

I bought Space Engine few days ago and I would like to suggest you to show the shortcut of some tool when the mouse is placed over it,
currently only the name of the function is shown

For example, now when I place the mouse over "Center Object" button, it would show a popover with "Center Object (C)",

I miss this feature because it is a quite hard to remember all shorcuts.

Thank you.

I support this. Please, add shortcuts to tool-tips. Thanks.

Some non-critical, but quality-of-life suggestions:

1. Hotkeys to center view in exactly opposite direction of (a) selected object, (b) current view.
There is somewhat usable workaround - go past through the object and center again, but it won't work on obstacle-scale speed levels.
I doubt many people will use this, so it's ok to be unset by default, if added.

2. Land on selected target, when used on galaxies or nebulas, brings the camera close enough to see, but not enough to select their central system or cluster. The host galaxy/nebula keeps getting selected instead. To actually catch any central objects I have to go back and forward like pendulum while lowering speed, or just lower it enough from start and go forward for some longer time.

I suggest that either selection overlapping or landing distance of nebulous object (or both) be changed so that central system is selectable right after "landing".

I also tried the Universe Map mode, and it does the same - picking something from the central cluster selects its host galaxy.

Also "landing" on the Milky Way is not getting close enough to even see that cluster. Is that intentional?
