Suggestions for the Name of the SE Game

04 Jul 2017 20:17

Personally, I love the idea of using Latin words for names of this sort. Some appropriate names for a game of this magnitude:

"Nihilum" - Nothingness. Though the game universe isn't empty, it helps to convey the sheer size of the universe.
"Mundos" - Worlds.
"Coordinatas Extrema" - Extreme Coordinates.
"Lux Via" - Light The Way
"Stella Luce" - Star Light.
"Re Somnia" - Reality Dreams.
"Navis" - The Ship.
"Libero Inventore" - Free Explorer.
"Inspectro" - Surveyor.
"Sidereum Nox" - Starry Night.

How about "The Moldable Universe"  "the Moldable Worlds" or "The Moldable Cosmos"  8-)

So basically it's infinite, a game where you will be able to explore and change so it's "for ever changing" thats why i think the word "moldable" fits in :)

Here are my suggestions:
  • The Game of Everything (or just...)
  • Everything
  • Transfinity
  • Gigaverse (Not sure if it's the most appropriate name for the game, but sounds VERY cool)
  • Infinitus
  • Galacta

Star Maker in homage to Olaf Stapledon's sci-fi novel of the same name. The reason being that the book is written exactly how Space Engine is played; an unnamed protagonist discovers that he has the ability to move interstellar and galactic distances at will and begins to explore the universe looking for life.

This is not how the SE game will be played. The player will build a ship and set out from Earth to explore the stars, collecting information about objects and sending that data back.

I love this game because you can explore the entire universe without barriers. Are you going to add the planetarium mode to the final game?

There will always be a planetarium, but that is not the game.

But all these, save "Navis" and "Nihilum", are either spelt wrong, have an odd grammatical case, or have other grammatical problems.

Agreed, unfortunately it seems like Google translator material. The reasoning is valid though. :-)

Not at all! As I personally specified I totally appreciate the idea of some Latin name, and Midskogen just pointed out it's wrongly translated. Did I said something wrong? Mind you, we're not English native speakers.
I learned Latin at school, though, as I'm sure others in this forum. Should I apply your logic and shut up?

I didn't mean to be rude.  I like the idea of using Latin (much used in the names of places in the solar system).  I used to be relatively fluent in Latin (I switched to Latin after my master in informatics), so I can help.

It was kinda sarcastic to be honest. Which is hard to convey with written word, especially considering even spoken it should sound serious to be TRULY sarcastic. I am having a pretty *** day today though, so it's probably my fault anyway!

FYI, it was google translated, as I don't speak Latin. But I did pipe the results *back* into Google to reverse translate. Normally, doing this results in different translations to the original if it isn't right. Apparently, in this case, it wasn't.
