COMMUNITY ADDON - Double/Multiple Asteroids fixes for SE

22 Mar 2017 07:58

It appears that ''Tama'', which is a binary main belt asteroid shows as a planet with green color when orbits are enabled (but surprisingly not in system map  :? ).
It is funny the way I noticed it: I was travelling with a ship I built with the SE ship editor between Toliman (Alpha Centauri) and a procedural near-by system. While in interstellar space and about 5-6 LYs from Sol system I thought I could use the pgup/pgdn zoom function to simulate telescope view and try to zoom to earth from that distance. Surprizingly I noticed a 5th green orbit between Mars and Ceres! I thought ''wait a minute - A new planet apeared in Sol while I was travelling?? lol"

A quick look in Asteroids-bin.sc does not reveal any apparent errors - but I am no expert :(
► Show Spoiler
Things I tried:
1.)I tried adding the
Class           "Asteroid"
command at various combinations within the above code segment but it still draws ''Tama'' binary with green color :(
2.) Cleared the Cache Folder - no change.

I don't see issues for Tama:
scr00004.jpg
I have seen results like this caused by syntax errors or unintended merged objects.
Could you share your se.log file?

N0B0DY,
you have several warnings about some shaders in your log file.
Either something is wrong with your SpaceEngine installation, or you have problems with your graphics card driver.

Maybe you should try it with another driver version.
Or you need to reinstall SpaceEngine.

Or you leave it as it is, after all, it's just warnings, and accepts such small differences.

N0B0DY, try moving Asteroids-bin.sc under data/catalogs/planets. Remove Asteroids-Rem.sc,I haven't checked in a while but it shouldn't be necessary with SE 0980.
See if it works.

JackDole I don't know why I have these error messages in se.log. My SE installation outside addon folder is untouched. I never install addons outside the addons folder.
Regarding the drivers being the cause of these messages, they may be but I normally update them using latest DDU utility . I delete the cahce folder after each update. I use latest version of drivers as my GPU is relatively new and should, in theory, benefit from latest driver.
Mosfet I don't like modifying my data (or any other default SE folder) but I will give it a try and report back.
I am using some modified shaders and here is my addons>shaders> folder for inspection.

N0B0DY, Asteroids-bin.sc is intended to be simply placed under data folder, named as it is, to replace the default one, instead of merging data with. By placing it under addons folder there could be some unintended replacement/merging. Obviously default pak file is untouched.

N0B0DY,
the warnings likely come from your addon shaders.
They are probably not fully compatible with the current version of SpaceEngine.

Mosfet, moving "Asteroids-bin.sc" to data\catalogs\planets fixes the issue. It may actually be beneficial to leave it there until 0.981 goes live as this will be included in the catalogs0981.pak as I come to understand.. which in turn makes me rethink of my policy to keep every addon in the addons folder - this may not be very good idea as some addons that will be included in 0981 will then need to be removed from addons folder. And my addons folder is soo big :(

Added 26-03-2017:

On an unrelated note (or somewhat related - I don't know where it belongs), Sedna and Quaoar are classified as "Asteroids". Shouldn't they be classified as "Dwarf planets" (since 2014 U2224 which is much smaller is classified as "Dwarf planet") ?

N0B0DY, I googled around a bit. It's true that most science news websites refer to these objects mostly as dwarf planets. As of today, though, I haven't found official statements by International Astronomical Union about changed classifications regarding Sedna, Quaoar or 2014 UZ224, which are referred by scientific sources as TNO, at the moment only potential candidates for "Dwarf Planet" status.
I think they'll wait more data to make it official for some, if not all of them.

If you describe what errors you have found, then maybe someone can fix them ! [hr] You can also try to correct the errors yourself !

Well, I was trying to see first if it was okay for me to ask this here. But I have identified at least these following problems: Balam – Shows the number of moons for S2002 (3749) 1 and not Balam itself, it also says that S2002 is the largest in Balam system which is false, I think it's related to same bug as the number of moons display.
http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/astro/a ... 03749.html

Litva its moon S2012 (2577) 1 and Litva sytem have the same problem as Balam system.
http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/astro/a ... 02577.html

Trans-Neptunian 1998 WW31 is missing its moon.
