I would recommend scouting around for super-Earths with dense clouds, blueish-tinted surface and thick atmosphere to get started. Then you can tweak the parameters to your liking and export the script from the Editor. With a quick star browser search I even found a nice candidate to get started from: π3 Orionis 6 (Using vanilla 0.9.8.0e).

I'd post a picture too but I haven't made enough posts on the forum :)

A height map of Earth with Greenland and Antarctica without ice would be very interesting. I do not mean procedural Earth with tweaked weather, which would leave these two landmasses as 2-4k high plateaus.

I mean something like this:

Are there any mods that have attempted to model the INTERIOR of the SE ships? I don't just mean a cock pit or control room, but also a fairly good layout of the rest o the ship (the crewquarters, engineering corridors, artificial habitats, scientific labs, all that stuff). If none have been made - why not?

At the moment, illumination of internal structures would be affected by external sources like stars close by as if they were open spaces, with poor results, at least with my tests.

The trick for interiors is to make the diffusion map completely black, and use the emission map for actual textures.

Be that as it may, that still does not answer my question: are there any mods attempting to model ship interiors? It would seem that if a certain amount of resources are diverted from the main visual objectives of SE (that is, complete realistic depictions of planets, stars etc and all their properties, among other things) to programming the orbital dynamics and controls of ships, along with improvements to their outward appearance, then then at least some attention should be directed to their interiors. Its seems like a no brainer. I did not see ship interior modeling as part of the SpaceEngineer's to-do list , so maybe it is not being considered as part of finalized game-play?

Regardless, is it just too hard of a task for modders to tackle because of coding issues?

I would love to see something like that in the engine, if not in the 'multiplayer' side of it, then at least something like singleplayer. It would really add a whole other level of immersion. I would like to bring this about and perhaps even aid in its creation. Certainly a big task, but then again so was simulating entire solar-systems...

The last part seems to imply the development of a specific engine module.
There are in fact some commands in the manual explicitly referring to internal maps.
Like you said, with the tools that SE gives us at the moment, seems to me a lot of work, that's probably the reason that nobody did that. I did some tests on a shuttle, not satisfactory enough. I didn't try yet what Mr.Abner said, will surely do.

As is always the case, I did not see that on the list. Oops :mrgreen:.

Which mod authors are involved with these ship interior modelling/tests (aside from Mr. Abner and yourself)?
