If you want to add parts to this online ship editor to create your own ships, I'm afraid I can't help you. Haven't used it much.

But if you want to import a finished 3d model into SE, SE can do it directly. Haven't done that myself, either, but everything you need to know should be right here:

tornadotodd, one thing is using this online spacecraft editor to assemble ship parts that are used in-game by simply placing an sss file in a proper addons folder, another one is importing ships created elsewhere like those from movies and such.
In order to port one of those ships into SE you should follow the manual where it's described how SE can directly build the files it needs by starting from an OBJ file and its MTL counterpart.
If you don't have an OBJ file, you can use Blender 3d to export correctly the OBJ/MTL files needed by SpaceEngine, with export parameters as shown in that manual section.

I've followed the directions on importing the .sss file, but my ship is not showing up in-game. Am I missing something or do I have to add more files? I've even tried using community based ones but those don't work either

I am having the same problem as aFinapple. Its like I am missing something. I can do the ship editor that's easy, but I have found some good quality real models that I want to make some mods with. I have followed to the best of my ability and I cant get a ship to show up. Maybe it in my code somewhere idk. I wish that there was someone that would put out a youtube tutorial with their next import from a game, nasa, or star treck to make the process easier to understand. I am so frustrated with it that if I can figure it out I am going to do just that just to help other people out. I literally spent 12 hours today.. Is blender the best program to use? I noticed in the se thread what appeared to be a much easier export box. What program is that?  And so the obj should generate the mtl if done right? And at that point I am still not getting a sm file out of it, nor Is it easy to understand what to change the parameters too in that thread. I really hope that I can get the hang of this or some help.. If someone would make a video on their next import step by step that would be so helpful. If I can get someone to help me trouble shoot and figure it out I would be more than willing to do that myself for everyone.

And another thing is that even the community built ones don't work, which leads me to believe that I might have a faulty directory maybe

I re-downloaded SpaceEngine and created the addons/models/spacecrafts directory in the new SE and it still does not work  :(

I placed your .sss file under addons/models/spacecraft/ and it works fine.

addons/models/spacecrafts
it's /spacecraft now, not /spacecrafts. I see that name is wrong unfortunately in some part of the manual.
which correspond to two models – DiscoveryHull.sm and DiscoveryEngine.sm (the latter is used twice). They are located in the folder addons/2001/models/spacecrafts/Odyssey2001/Discovery/, as specified in the sss file

Yep, that's what it was. Thanks!

This is amazing, I made 3 spaceships in 2 days:

SilverRay MK1
Designed as private cruising starship, it's been highly modified and armed, providing great performance. This is the first and as far the best ship Furebel Shipyards have made.

ASS-1 Missile Destroyer
Asymmetrical Space Ship take on the design helped with the temperature issues for an idea, to pack as much proton torpedoes into small ship as possible, but gave engineers a head-ache when they were forced to fine-tune engine power, so it wont just flip over when pilot will step on the pedal. Plus, Furebel Shipyards found a good excuse to make an asymmetrical starship, and give it a name reminding of a certain body part.

Speedster MKI
In the failed attempt of reconstructing a triangular-shaped military spaceship of their favorite movie series, Furebel Shipyards found, that their newest abomination still looks good enough to release it despite it's awful performance.

I just made use of this and a method I discovered of adding custom docking ports while keeping it all contained in a .pak file to create two ships.  I will post it as soon as I can, but apparently I have to have 10 posts before I can create a topic to put them in so in stating my problem I am actively solving it.

I've constructed two ships now using the online editor, both of which held the record of heaviest ship to ever be created for this game (that I'm aware of). The first one still has a couple design issues I intend to tweak, but the second one is all good to go, so I'll upload it after I post a few more replies to stuff.
Suffice to say the second ship is 2.3 kilometers long and weighs just over 4 billion tons, if I read the number correctly.
