For Earth you would of course only see the Earth's orbit around the Earth-Moon barycenter. To see the orbit of the earth around the sun, you would have to select the barycenter.

When it comes to real stars, how accurate are the metallicity values for stars?  Especially curious about the accuracy Carbon/Oxygen ratio.  Knowing if that ratio is accurate would be very useful for making fictional planetary systems, since it would inform which systems might have carbon planets versus silicate ones.

Zebra Zed, updates are done possibly every month as you can see in the Steam page, but not as a given rule, depending on how much time is needed for fixing bugs or the development of new and existing features.

I understand. I am aware that updates are not given at a given rule. That's true. I just wanted to know approximately how frequent updates were released. I thought that development for Space Engine was on a yearly basis. That's because updates seems so slow.

Doe anyone has play Universe Sandbox? It is a dazzling Universe Sandbox where you can create systems and stellar objects with ease. You should give it a try.

For the most part, Space Engine has the most beautiful and appealing graphics.

Many new users ask this same question. You can find even in this thread some examples. The answer is always the same. It will be ready when it is ready. I know it sounds rude, but bare in mind that this project was started by a single person in its free time. Now there are a pair of additional contributors and there's a bit of money for it to keep growing, but there are many things to improve (detect and correct bugs) and implement (parts of the algorithm that have to be changed continuosly to adapt to new hardware updates). All of this makes SE a long run project. There are updates each two months, but sometimes it is way more time and others it is just a matter of weeks between them. There is no predictability on this. Problems that might seem insignificant can always turn out to be large and complex implementations might be done rapidly sometimes.

I've never played it myself but many here obviusly had. Again, I reccomend you use the search tool. There are even entire threads about this topic, like here, here, here and here.

I was considering getting universal sandbox but in the end decided against it because I saw comments indicating that it doesn't stay up to date on exoplanets the way Space Engine does, nor does it show anywhere near the kind of detail on planetary surfaces or atmospheres the way Space Engine does.  And, in the end, how much software can one run at the same time and use?  I already have Space Engine Pro and Starry Night Pro Plus and use them both at the same time, so getting another one would simply be redundant.

With that said, I do have a question.....wiki states that we've discovered 4,500 exoplanets so far.  How many of those are in Space Engine already and is it possible to have a list of real exoplanets in the program so that we can see that in real time (we have that in Starry Night Pro Plus and I see the list contains 3,875 exoplanets as of today.)

With the next update the number of exoplanets will be probably 4605, based on data from http://exoplanetarchive.ipac.caltech.edu/index.html and http://exoplanet.eu/catalog/ . There's no way to have that number directly in the program, you have to count the occurrence of the parameter "Planet" in a couple of catalog files.

PS: You asked more or less the same in 2017, when confirmed planets in SE version 0980 were 3590.

Yes!  Thanks for remembering  I wanted to see how much progress was made and it looks like there was a lot!  One of the reasons I upgraded from 0980 to 0990 is that 0990 automatically updates planets, while 0980 will always remain stuck at 3590 (is that correct)?  Unless someone chooses to manually add planets I think?

Yes, but if you think of using Space Engine for astronomy and get accurate calculations for the positions of planets, asteroids, occultations and such, you probably want to use something else.

I do use another astronomy software. That is Universe Sandbox.
