The patch 0.980e, adds planet ephemerides to SE 0.980. Link to the news and download:

Minor bug - typo in the Solar system catalog file, resulting in a wrong rotation period of Saturn (4 hours). To fix it:

- Extract SolarSys.sc from <SE folder>/data/catalogs/Catalogs0980.pak: (it is a renamed zip archive, so you can use winrar or 7z or whatever). Save extracted file to this path (create folders manually):
<SE folder>/data/catalogs/planets/SolarSys.sc

- Open the file with notepad, find Saturn script, find RotationModel "IAU", and replace this line
RotationRate 1810.7939024 // degrees/day
with this one:
RotationRate 810.7939024 // degrees/day

You should make a "Ephemerides Ultra pack" with 1GB of accurate planet movement modeling, just like the Solar S. HD pack.

No one will see the difference. Only is someone would like to explore historical events 13000 years ago (using the DE431 ephemerides).

In the patch download, it says that it is recommended to make a separate installation of SE, why is that?

To avoid possible conflicts with existing addons, custom scripts, cache, I guess. As SpaceEngineer said, not jokingly :D, the update could also compromise the existing and working 0980, so making at least a copy of the existing program folders can save a lot of time if something goes wrong.

Thanks Vladimir!  When will we be able to see star positions historically (proper motion of stars) both past and future?  And will there be a way to use photorealistic panoramas for the background?

I've just saw the precession of Mercury's perihelion. It's beautifull. But the problem is that it uses the DE436 theory that goes from the year 1550 to the year 2560. After that it imediatelly stops. If VSOP87 is also implemented and has unlimited timespan, why we can't see further evolution of Mercury's orbit?


Another thing to be considered I noticed is that when you use a timescale of 106 the orbits clearly "jump". For example if you go to Saturn and watch it from 0.5 AU with that time-flow, you can clearly see how for each step the orbit change in a discrete jump. I know this is because for each timestep you compute a new keplerian orbit. But could the timestep be smaller? or could it be interpolated for more points so this effect get's unnoticed?

Ups, one more thing;

I saw that you have implemented TASS 1.7 for the Saturnian system; the orbital theory that acounts for the perturbations over Mimas, Enceladus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Titan, Hyperion and Iapetus. Is there some solution for the rest of the moons of Saturn?

I think is important we can see for example the orbital exchange between Janus and Epimetheus. A very interesting phenomenon that occurs every 4 years. Seen from Epimetheus how the 200 km sized Janus aproaches and then leaves swaping orbits between them it's a dream. In SE for now you just see them in opposite sides of Saturn, never coming close, never swaping orbits :(
