The Future of Humanity & Intelligent life in the universe

09 Oct 2017 16:55

A Cashless world would suck. My purchasing power in a cashless society will be based on my social behavior online, my Ebay rating score or how many likes on Facebook that I get for efficiently moving products or services. All transactions will be scrutinized by third parties, I wouldn't even be able to buy a surprise birthday present for my wife. Or an abused and beaten wife could never save cash under her mattress to make a get away from an abusive husband. I think most governments would love the idea of a cashless society, one in which they control every aspect of your life. You have no actual right to open a bank account, but in our society it is nearly impossible to function without one. Excommunication from society could be done with the flick of a switch, by an AI with a bad attitude. Also, if the AIs think we are too opulent and jaded, our purchasing power can be throttled, so you wouldn't want to horde it, and it keeps it moving on into other peoples control. The AIs could lower the value your purchasing power based on the wholesomeness of your choices. The idea that humans would turn to self-actualization activities don't understand what all that might encompass. It won't become a world of maker-spaces, it would soon turn into a world of Wankers! How many jobless people do you know that don't spend the majority of their time sleeping and watching TV. Retired people watch 50 hours of TV every week. None take up new hobbies, or any altruistic activities. The unemployed, even with welfare, feel the most socially isolated. Even in a world without work, pride and jealousy will still be around. When people can not make a contribution to society that is translatable to themselves they generally feel demoralized and unappreciated. The paradox of work is people prefer to complain about working alot more than actually becoming couch potatoes. One last point is that without a need for humans to produce, they would leave the necessity of cities of cities or urban centers behind and spread out into the land, becoming less social, and less civilized. Humans would revert to their baser animal behaviors soon enough.

Gnargenox, I like how you think you know what a cashless society would be like when no one else really has any idea.  Given that there are true finite resources, it is more likely our production capability will give everyone a high standard of living and what you are given will not be dependent on anything outside of that.  If people were rewarded with more and there were a system of exchange, I suspect it would have to be through something that is limited, such as access to energy or amounts of resources.

Hopefully any solution won't involve reproduction rights or body part farms.

reproduction rights
This one I wouldn't worry about, especially with space travel.
body part farms.
Unlikely given current advancements being made in growing and repairing organs.

I agree with you for most of what you've said, even if I'd like a cashless world that works and I always desired one, but not about this sentence. I think governments would never accept such an idea, because people like that has a very high quality of life and they would never turn into "standard humans" because they'll loose most of what they already have.

DoctorOfSpace, nice vid Doc.
The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

I think at some point if humanity is to survive long-term, we will need a postmilitary/postpolice society that is also postcapital and postreligion for the same reasons you outlined above.  It has to go beyond cashless, because cashless still includes electronic transactions which the government can and does monitor.  I'm looking at more of a star trek type of society in the far future (and yes as long as humans colonize space, we won't need to curb reproduction rates, but as long as we are limited to Earth, birth rates MUST stay at 2/couple.)

Yes, to clarify the point of transactions in the freeworld, it's not any kind of transactions, just cientificly, because we don't have what to change for another object or services, the services is for love, because you love to make anithing you're going to do. Space Engine is an example, it's not payed, but could be, and it is a good product of mental capatibilities, cientific knowledges and the avaiable technology. Think what can be the mankind if everyone cold do what them love to do. If you love, you won't need pay for this, and could be free. But, you can think: what about my job to make this? What you do in your job can be build from machines. The idea is yours, you can use for this.

The universe is beyond anything we can imagine.Astronomers have claimed,"Humanity may be the first intelligent species in the universe and might have to wait a long time to communicate with extraterrestrials".
