Joining the 2017 photo collection.  With a twist - I'll post one image from each month.  That seemed as a good idea.  Then I found out that only 10 images are allowed for on epost, so I'm sorry for the double post.

Midtskogen, cool photos. I've also photographed the total solar eclipse in Oregon, but I'll wait until I get more posts in order to be able to post the image.

yeah me too, love the landscapes of norway, these images are awesome! the thick snow reminded me of my town in the alexa 2013 storm. Planning a trip to norway with a friend after i finish my army service, can't wait to be able to hike there myself and feel the nature of this place unlike the desert feeling here  :)

As I promised earlier, I'm posting an image of the solar eclipse from 21 August 2017.

This is a composite image of the solar corona, comprised of 17 shots varying in exposure from 1/1000s to 1/2s. F-stop and ISO constant at f/8 and 100, respectively. I used a Canon EOS 60D with a Soligor 400mm f/6.3 lens attached.

I observed this eclipse in Lime, Oregon, USA. The weather was perfect from start to finish and I was able to capture the whole event on camera with no problems.

Oslo, 2017-12-30 01:04:40 CET.  The Moon and ice crystals form an upper and lower tangent arc and light pillars.  Temperature: -6.7°C.

Wonderful composite!  I'd like to add your image to the 2017 eclipse thread if you don't mind.
And neat light display, Midtskogen. I never seen a lower tangent arc or ice pillars before.  Probably the most interesting was a parhelic circle which was vivid and complete all the way around the sky for about 10 minutes.

I never seen a lower tangent arc or ice pillars before.
The tangents form only when the sun (or moon) is is below 29 degrees, above which a circumscribed halo form instead.  And in this case the Moon was 27.5 degrees above the horizon, barely within the limit for tangent arcs.  I think I'll make a timelapse of the Moon passing below 29 degrees to see if the change can be seen, but the fog is frequently blocking the Moon.

I'm honoured, go right ahead. I had not seen that thread before.

Curious about the 29 degree transition I made a timelapse showing the Moon going trom 33.9 to 28.3 degrees.  I guess there may be a single circumscribed arc in the beginning, but it appears to be too faint to be seen (but close at 0:13).

Today's sunset.  It was quite spectacular for an hour or so, so I need to make a timelapse as well.
