The host always dies. Sometimes the virus moves on, sometimes the virus adapts.

Makes you wonder what will become of humanity and how we will adapt.  Research already seems to be indicating that in the technology age, the structure of the human brain is changing (the amount of time children spend on their smart phones, etc.), the rise of superweeds from overuse of pesticides, superbugs from overuse of antibiotics, earlier onset of puberty, obesity (half of Americans are considered medically obese), increasing heart disease, cancer, autism, adhd, etc, colonoy collapse disorder and the dying off of the pollinators.

ah but this is why bacteria will outlast all of us, the simpler the creature the more quickly it adapts and evolves.  Thats how we now have a prevalence of antibiotic resistant bacteria and pesticide resistant superweeds.  Maybe we need to find a way to work with nature to deal with our problems rather than fighting a losing battle (something like immune system boosting drugs like the new generation of immunotherapy which is said to be better than chemo and with fewer side effects.)

Oh, I absolutely anticipate bacteria outliving humans. Never a doubt in my mind. Bacteria evolve too.

It's so interesting that we've seen colonies of lichen growing on the OUTSIDE of the ISS!  Also, I think an experiment showed that they can grow on Martian rocks.

The secret recipe to the wonder material Starlite has been stumbled across.

~~ Elmer's glue, baking soda and cornstarch. ~~

I think you could even eat it. Withstands the heat of an acetylene torch.
