Hello
I dont know if this is good place to write about that but, I just wanted to ask about become a beta tester of SE. Is this still valid?
Unfortunately, beta tester group is closed, and people can't apply to join anymore. It was closed approximately one year ago, and other beta testers that got beta later even if it was closed were mostly translators. The other people that got it were given beta because admins decided to give it to certain people due to their accomplishments or other things.
Considering your skill with Space Engine, maybe you could ask Doc? Your screenshots would look great with beta, but it's up to admins to decide.
Also, you should consider translating SE to get beta. :)

We use time just to orientate through space.

Totally off topic,, My old computer had a gtx 520 in it. I upgraded to a 1050 for SE.. I also play orbiter 2016.. It worked fine. I decided to get a gtx 1060, and for some reason Orbiter 2016 no longer would word and give a white screen error saying something like failed to initialize 3d software environment. I searched EVERYTHING.. NO ANSWERS. So I finally finished my new gaming computer, it has a gtx 1080 in it.. I thought surely problem solved. Same issue on my new computer. So I put the gtx 520 back into the old computer, and Orbiter works fine again, just with *** old graphics card.. So I know its not either of my computers.. It has something to do with gtx cards 1060 and higher... For the life of me I cant figure it out and have had no luck on their forum.. So I thought maybe my SE family could trouble shoot and maybe throw some input out there for me, or maybe one of you have had this issue before and know how to solve it. I would love to try Orbiter 2016 on my new build. I hope off topic is appropriate for this question as we are all space lovers.

Very big earthquake (M~8.2) off the Alaskan coast a few minutes ago.  My gear has just begun registering it.  Possible tsunami threat to the Canadian west coast.

Someone in Vancouver messaged me about it an hour ago, doesn't sound good.

It's been downgraded to M7.9, but that's still a powerful quake, usually seen only once or twice a year worldwide.

The Earth is still ringing.  Almost two hours into the event this is my plot from my home in Norway:

I should invest some time into better understanding these seismographs.  I would be really interested in getting my own setup and tracking such things, it seems quite interesting.

Nice lilac color -- I didn't know you had a meteor station on Eve. :)

:)

This is the colour you get with a sun just below the horizon in a snowy landscape - the blue snow mixed with the red sunlight.  It's usually seen where there are no trees, but in this case the forest is very loaded with snow and frost and it comes close to the white plains.

That's not Eve. Look at that dish on the left. It's obviously Hoth. :) (Actually, were not the Hoth scenes filmed in Norway?)

Beautiful pic no matter where it is.

Yes, Hoth was filmed at Finse, located along the train line between Oslo and Bergen.  The meteor station, however, is located just north of Oslo, at the Harestua Solar Observatory.  The dish is no longer in use, and the observatory has mostly moved from science to education.  When the University of Oslo no longer wanted to run the observatory, they were planning to dismantle every building and instrument (as required by the contract with land owner), but the place was rescued and is now protected as a cultural site.  And I'm able to do a tiny bit of science there with these meteor cameras. :)

Symmetry about the origin (odd functions) won't work -- this will always make the integral either exactly zero, or not converge.  Every bit of area to the right of the y-axis (if not infinite) will be cancelled by an equivalent but negative area on the left side, since f(-x) = -f(x) by this symmetry.

Examples:  integral over x/(e^x^2) is zero.  Integral over x, 1/x and 1/x^3 don't converge.

So a function must be even (symmetric about y-axis), or neither even nor odd, to possibly give a finite and non-zero integral.  If even, then the area from -infinity to infinity is double the area from 0 to infinity, since f(-x) = f(x).  Examples:

Integral over cos(x) doesn't converge, since it continues to oscillate as x-->infinity.  (Area is incomputable).
1/x^2 doesn't converge because it blows up too much at origin.  (Area is infinite).
1/(e^x^2) yields the square root of pi.  (Cousin to the normal distribution.  Area is finite since it decays very fast.)
Our friend sin(1/x)/x is even and gives pi.
sin(x)/x also gives pi, but in this case it's a bit easier to visually see how since there is no nasty singularity.
For some reason, your graphs remind me of a oscillating universe :)
