I often use the awesomely intuitive graphing program Desmos . I created a to-scale solar system in it, which utilizes my knowledge of circles, inequalities, and rotation. I kept gradually adding things to it over literal years until it included one star, eight planets, six moons, and five regions of...

By the way, what you guys are talking about sounds like 2.5D graphics :-D Yeah, I guess that's what the hurricane I was describing is! You could make a purely 2D hurricane sim by making it a many-state cellular atoma, making each point on the plane do what layers of them previously did. But since i...

Online spacecraft editor

I downloaded the downloadable editor, but when I tried to run it, it says that my graphics card does not support webGL. I tried enabling it in Chrome (which, somehow, the editor seems to use), but no luck. Any help? But I could use the online editor, and I created this: http://forum.spaceengine.org/...

Wouldn't this game include ion engines? If so, I'd imagine they would be on most motherships, giving them an absolutely HUGE delta-v. I would think ion engines would at least be more useful for interplanetary travel than warp drives, because of what SpaceEngineer mentioned about the velocity of the ...

Teleporting spacecraft

I tried that, and instead of teleporting the ship there, the ship tried to warp. And it seems that Space Engine warp drives only work by amplifying velocity, which I couldn't get any of on the surface of the Sun. Anyways, I just deleted the spaceship, but it would still be nice to know how it happen...

A space engine story of your choice

It was implied that such a malfunction didn't happen on any of the previous (I suppose warp-capable) spacecraft. I'm assuming that has some significance. What would happen if their ship hit some object? Would warping through a star have adverse effects on their fusion reactor?

13682 Does anyone know any accurate 2d simulations of convective cloud systems that can be run on the average PC? Something like this that doesn't use 100 million particles.  I don't think it is possible to get accurate simulations of convective systems, especially tropical cyclones, in 2D.  These ...

Why are there so much carbon dioxide on life planets?

Maybe there's forms of photosynthesis that are anaerobic, meaning that they don't produce oxygen in this case. There's probably plenty of other reactions that can pull energy from light other than the oxygen-releasing ones we're used to.

I was playing around in Space Engine, exploring Saturn and its rings, when I must have clicked the wrong thing and I found myself on the Sun's surface. So, how did this happen, and how can I do it to teleport myself back to Saturn?

About black holes, is it possible there's not actually a singularity - no infinitely dense point - to black holes? From my understanding of relativity and time dilation, time gets slower and slower as the gravity's escape velocity grows closer and closer to c , meaning that nothing can pass through ...

9801 But, if magnetic forces are 1036stronger than gravity, does that mean that we can create some sort of anti-gravity craft? It is easy to use magnetic forces to levitate things, but the difficult part is keeping stability, or levitating more than a very small distance (the magnetic force drops a...

Also, I heard Jupiter emits a wide range of radio waves very intensely in some directions. Is it possible for a gas giant to emit radio waves in a similar manner, but in a very narrow frequency range?

It would impact Mars and a lot of astronomers would have a fun time but not our rovers i guess  :) Well, it most likely wouldn't destroy our rovers directly, but the impact would be bad news for our rovers. The impact probably would kick up a lot of martian dust, resulting in a long sandstorm that ...

The biggest takeaway is that there really isn't a whole lot of room remaining in terms of observations for more planets to be out there.  Either they are there and we will find them soon, or they aren't there and we'll be soon be confident that they aren't. There's a helpful (and humorous) chart fr...

Searching star browser for stars starting with Greek letters

If your keyboard has a numpad, you actually can type those greek letters. (Proof: αßΓπΣσµτΦΘΩδ∞φε) With num lock on, hold down alt, type the character's code on the numpad, and then release alt. 224-238 are greek letters.
