Cosmology Discussion Thread

A Black Hole in 3D is a sphere, but in 4D Spacetime, is it a cylinder or a black torus ring with a black hole in the middle? Or maybe multiple rings, each with separate Horizons or infinite surface planes with their own timelines? I'm thinking basically an expanding 3D space within the shell or oute...

Not disappointed with what everyone managed to get. With so many cameras trained on one spot I guess it's not surprising that we might get an asteroid in the frame.

Problems with exporting as 360 Video [SOLVED!]

26367 To get everything and even do 360 degree 3D immersive panoramas what all do I need?  ffmpeg, avidemux, divx/xvid and anything else? The 3D affect of dividing the video into cyan and magenta was a trick. It was only a filter with a phone app and not actually accurate. Everything shifted left o...

Realistic shapes/maps of known Solar asteroids/comets

I thought this was pretty cool. Maybe this 3D model can be used for modeling in SE. It is an OBJ file and is free if you sign up with them.

Problems with exporting as 360 Video [SOLVED!]

That all sounds good. Remember AVIs have a file size limit of 4gb lol but I see you won't have that problem anymore. I guess the ffmeg codec keeps bitrate high enough that you are in decent range for 1080 videos. Recommended upload bitrates for Youtube: Type        Standard Frame Rate (24, 30)    Hi...

Problems with exporting as 360 Video [SOLVED!]

Thanks for spelling out all the steps Apollonius ,. I wonder what you'd recommend for bitrate and frame rate settings. When I'm using Avidemux, and configuring the video output for DV (ffmeg) I can't get to the Rate Control menu. Using Mpeg4 AVC (x264), a common codec, I can adjust the Rate Controls...

That took me months to figure out. Avidemux is good too, for splicing with fades.

I wouldn't call them grayscale I use threshold in Photoshop to reduce it to solid black and solid white pixels. But it is still an RGB PNG. And yes just run that through Cube map and use a batch name-er to add the _a & _c suffixes, then put them in the same negx, posx etc folders. Don't forget t...

Glow maps and Normal Maps: I certainly have a lot of fun tweaking custom planets and textures. I was wondering what all the layers and maps are really for. When I enter the simulators Editor mode and Export a planet I get all sorts of options to save different graphic file types and layers. The rang...
