SE doesn't use flash or quicktime or anything else. And 3.25 GB of RAM is not enough for using SE + web browsers, never mind 3 of them. And if your motherboard only supports 4 GB of RAM and you're only using a 32-bit OS, you BADLY NEED to get new hardware and install a 64-bit OS.

7890  is it a bad idea to be using the internet while running SE at the same time? Depends on whether you're running all those apps on the same hard drive. SE does not use an internet connection, but it does read and write some data from the hard drive, as do web browsers, so if they're all running...

5538 GTX 580 (1.5 GB) and a new GT 730 (4GB) Man, those are 5 years-old GPUs. Why not buy some GTX 1060? 580 is much faster than 730:  link , and 1.5 GB is enough for SE, if you will not use LOD 1. Problem is that my motherboard is not compatible with anything newer than PCI-e 2.0  The GT 730 was a...

SpaceX

Hi everyone, I'm currently vacationing in Florida and decided to stop by for the launch yesterday. It was pretty awesome, you would not believe how bright the exhaust plume is. Anyway, here's a pic and audio recording. I'll be posting additional pics at that link. Might not process any more before I...

General suggestions for SpaceEngine

I have a suggestion, something that might have been suggested before but I couldn't find it no matter how deep I searched: Could you add some sort of a molly-guard to "Set Current Time" UI option? I don't know, a confirmation dialog or something? Or just move it somewhere else, so that it...

General questions about SpaceEngine

Found this planet recently, almost 13 Earth masses and a diameter of more than 1.7 times the diameter of Earth which means (according to SE) it has a density of 13.478 g/cm[sup]3[/sup], a heck of a lot. Is this even possible? What this planet should be composed of then if it's the case? It could ha...

Spacer , the Ryzen 7 1700 is a good CPU, especially for SE, which is able to take full advantage of multiple threads. And having a motherboard with an AM4 socket will make future upgrades easier since AMD rarely changes socket types. Intel changes sockets frequently, meaning that to buy a new CPU i...

7107 My motherboard is MSI 2AE0 If you want to stick with that motherboard, the best you're guaranteed to be able to do regarding a CPU is an A10-5800K. IMO it's worth it to get a new mobo altogether and move your whole system to a newer standard and set you up for an easier time in the coming year...

NathanKerbonaut , the first thing you and your dad should do is figure out a budget. Once you do that, we can better help you decide what new hardware you should choose. I definitely agree with  Spacer 's assessment that you need both a new CPU and a new graphics card; your budget will determine wh...

Getting bigger and bigger!
Actually Venus is getting smaller right now. Unless you mean me getting bigger images of it as time goes on?

The Future of Humanity & Intelligent life in the universe

7041 I still think the ethical issues regarding Martian children are important. What about the ethical issues regarding children today? Arbitrary creation of new sentient beings with a very high likelihood of their experiencing significant amounts of suffering in their lives. And that's TODAY, on E...

General global warming / climate chage discussion

7047 I know for a fact that man made carbon emissions is minuscule to the size of a volcano, which produces ALOT more CO2 than machines. Incorrect. According to the USGS (the people who study, among other things, volcanoes), Volcanoes emit less than 1% as much CO[sub]2[/sub] as human activity does ...

Define man-made climate change.
A measurable change in climate primarily caused by human activity.
