Unusual weather

California had a very rare phenomena called a fire whirl (or you can call them by their numerous other names, including "firenados") in the town called Redding, as the Carr wildfire created its own weather system by causing a strong hot updraft that mixed with the pyrocumulus eddies - crea...

What other games do you play?

Ahhh, the older Elderscrolls games. Morrowind was one of the first games I ever played and I still get pangs of nostalgia as I even THINK about it. I played it thrice from start to end, then played again modded so hard that I never finished it. I don't care if its somewhat old school by today's Skyr...

Quotes about Universe for loading window

This is an interesting quote I found while perusing my old Rene Descartes books, it is relevant to technology and math (I think), so it may fit for SE:

"The Conquest of Nature is to be achieved through Number and Measure"

Apparently an angel told him that in a dream.

Science and Astronomy Questions

For one thing, it would be ideal to have a ship that does not need external refueling, or if so, does not need it often, and for another, exactly what type of 'fuel' it is - but that is neither here nor there. I believe there are various ways to refuel ships in planetary orbit. I would take inspirat...

Topic for Music Lovers

Whilst looking for new music on YouTube, I came across this artist called Scandroid . His music I found very pleasing - very retro-wavy and sci-fi. Curious to hear more, I did some research and found that "Scandroid" was actually just one of the music projects that a musician named "K...

I'll try to keep an open mind 8-). Lets hope those aliens send us another.

Speaking of swinging things around - astronomers have in infrared measured and watched a star called S2 orbit past the Sagittarius A* blackhole for THE FIRST TIME! Read about this here.

Upcoming Astronomy & Science Events - and YOU

The Perseids are neat to watch (if it's dark enough), but they move so fast that in my experience they are difficult to photograph.  Not because they're hard to catch (long shutter is easy), but that they don't put a lot of light on the sensor.  That being said, once in a while you might get an unu...

3D alien clouds

Is that in the game? Or just a concept? It is just a concept. Space Engine does not currently have volumetric or animated clouds in planetary atmospheres (yet). The new nebulae in version 0.990 are very cool and if 3d clouds on planets will be implemented, they would look like those , not the above...

What exoplanet might reply us back?

I wouldn't even call it indirect evidence, but rather a prerequisite for life as we know it.  To claim that it's evidence for life, would be  affirming the consequent . It's a very long way from these organic molecules to unicellular life.  The presence of limestone in Italy is not indirect evidenc...

I love the YouTube channel The Thought Emporium ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV5vCi3jPJdURZwAOO_FNfQ ). It is HIGHLY educational and I have attempted to duplicate some of their projects with varying levels of success, this one being the first: aeah3fFYlnA This next one is a wee bit beyond my s...
