largest procedural planet https://sta.sh/03xr0zk9djy Aside from the ridiculously enormous planet (which is clearly silly), how is that 9th planet at 1°C and the others around it are at hundreds of °C?! (also yeah, until you post 10 times you will barely be able to do anything here. Just post pics o...

The shadow of the huge close companion to this unusual Scorched Titan rushes towards us as it eclipses the system's sun. The companion's surface temperature is over 1300°C and its red glow transforms the landscape in its shadow.  The animated gif version can be found at: https://gfycat.com/gifs/deta...

[0.9.8.0] Elliptical galaxy appearance

Look, this is what I mean (ignore the core, this is just a quick thing I made with the gradient fill in photoshop. I'm talking about the edge of the circle here).  I think the one on the left looks more realistic because the stars fade to black at the edge. The border of the one on the right is more...

[0.9.8.0] Elliptical galaxy appearance

18626 Al the pictures of Elliptical galaxies that i've seen fade out into the surrounding space and don't have that edge. In computer simulation, everything must have a border. Elliptical galaxy model is not an exception. I get that everything must have a border but my point is that in this case I ...

[0.9.8.0] Elliptical galaxy appearance

It's the sharp edge that bothers me, and the point-like central spot. Al the pictures of Elliptical galaxies that i've seen fade out into the surrounding space and don't have that edge. The bottom picture looks better than the top one in that regard at least. Some do go to a bright point in the cent...

What's the biggest spiral galaxy anyone's ever found? I'm in NGC 6872 which is the biggest known spiral at about 260,000 ly across! Are there any larger procedurally generated ones? (I'm specifically looking for spirals here - I know about giant ellipticals like IC 1101).

[0.9.8.0] Elliptical galaxy appearance

Thanks, I'll check that out. It seems the ellipticals aren't rendered using models and textures (unlike the Spirals), does that mean it's impossible to modify any scripts or cfg files to alter their appearance?

[0.9.8.0] Elliptical galaxy appearance

is there any way to improve the appearance of the procedural Elliptical (E) Galaxies? They all basically look the same - a yellow spheroid with a gradient from the centre to a very sharply defined edge, and they look very unrealistic. At the very least is there a way to soften the outermost edge so ...

Well I only ask because they somehow look better than the 0.9.8.0 ones :)

true, but it'd be interesting to make a video with a ship flying over the surface trying to avoid mountains coming towards it :)

Aborygen - so if that's two planets almost touching, what happens if you set them to have different rotation speeds? :)

Well I did the course it's based on and I don't understand half of it myself :P

It is actually called "Solar System Dynamics", by C.D Murray and S.F. Dermott. It's post-grad level though.
