[0.9.8.0] Elliptical galaxy appearance

18626 Al the pictures of Elliptical galaxies that i've seen fade out into the surrounding space and don't have that edge. In computer simulation, everything must have a border. Elliptical galaxy model is not an exception. I get that everything must have a border but my point is that in this case I ...

[0.9.8.0] Elliptical galaxy appearance

It's the sharp edge that bothers me, and the point-like central spot. Al the pictures of Elliptical galaxies that i've seen fade out into the surrounding space and don't have that edge. The bottom picture looks better than the top one in that regard at least. Some do go to a bright point in the cent...

What's the biggest spiral galaxy anyone's ever found? I'm in NGC 6872 which is the biggest known spiral at about 260,000 ly across! Are there any larger procedurally generated ones? (I'm specifically looking for spirals here - I know about giant ellipticals like IC 1101).

[0.9.8.0] Elliptical galaxy appearance

Thanks, I'll check that out. It seems the ellipticals aren't rendered using models and textures (unlike the Spirals), does that mean it's impossible to modify any scripts or cfg files to alter their appearance?

[0.9.8.0] Elliptical galaxy appearance

is there any way to improve the appearance of the procedural Elliptical (E) Galaxies? They all basically look the same - a yellow spheroid with a gradient from the centre to a very sharply defined edge, and they look very unrealistic. At the very least is there a way to soften the outermost edge so ...

Well I only ask because they somehow look better than the 0.9.8.0 ones :)

Are those last ones taken with 9.9.0?

true, but it'd be interesting to make a video with a ship flying over the surface trying to avoid mountains coming towards it :)

Aborygen - so if that's two planets almost touching, what happens if you set them to have different rotation speeds? :)

Well I did the course it's based on and I don't understand half of it myself :P

It is actually called "Solar System Dynamics", by C.D Murray and S.F. Dermott. It's post-grad level though.

Well there's definitely a serious bug going on here! I just fired up Space Engine again tonight, I'm in the exact same system as before... but while physically the objects are the same as they were before, all of the temperatures are completely different (and more reasonable)! The system is no longe...

It's tidal heating. In 0.980 it sometimes goes crazy.

Is it going crazy because of a bug? I've got formulae here (in my Solar System Dynamics book) to calculate tidal heating based on eccentricity, mass of bodies, orbital distance etc if they need to be checked...

This is system is nuts - six out of the seven satellites around this planemo are incandescent (> 700°C). How does this even happen? The main light source for the system keeps switching around as the satellites move relative to eachother! Ironically the hottest body is actually pitch black and doesn'...
