How about 'Jovian' instead of 'Jupiter?'

I support "jovian" as a generic term for Jupiter-class objects. Either that or a return to "gas giant" and "ice giant" - I don't understand why the new system changed those names as they were easily understood. Using "Jupiter" as a classification for worlds si...

DoctorOfSpace's Mod Emporium v0.9.8.0

14453 This is my own opinion Indeed... the model isn't bad, but the misaligned hullplating/windows and generic texturing make me cry. None of which is your fault, you work with what you got, I get it. The smoothing groups are all messed up on that galaxy class - that didn't seem to happen with the ...

Work progress - 0.9.8.1

with the new version coming up, I wonder, the hardware requirements for SE changed? As a beta tester, I can testify that they don't appear to have. The new lighting system and ray-marched nebulae run pretty well on both my gaming system and my low-spec (intel i3 with integrated intel HD4400 graphic...

Recreation Image Dump

The very first submission to the thread was a recreation of an artistic image.

Qr Bbpost but I did not take the time to look how to get half transparent textures to work in SE, it transforms them into 0% or 100% opacity textures with no transparency at all.

Unsupported currently

Indeed, hence my longing!

This is giving me warm flashbacks to the days when the Star Trek Bridge Commander forums were bursting with active modelling projects! Suggestions: If you ca...

I switched to experiments with 3D clouds, star surface and water. - Duke Oh man, it's wonderful to hear this is being worked on. When you say Star surface, do you mean like, active coronas? Flares and CMEs? The funny thing is that this code could be used for real scientific work: to predict a plane...

A space engine story of your choice

Thanks, man! Thanks for the tip. As for it being unclear, that was what I was going for initially - particularly with Bracken's head-injury causing her disorientation at the beginning. Perhaps I should have spent a bit more time solidifying the situation for her so the reader could hitch a ride too?...

Planet detection by their radio emissions is pretty fantastic. I hope this technique can be refined to stand alongside transit and radial velocity as a reliable detection method for exoplanets.

A space engine story of your choice

Well, I wrote this about 2 years ago. It's largely inspired by SE, with a healthy dose of techno-optimism. Like most of my stories, I never finished it - I'm not sure where I can take it, but I like it and may finish it at some point. I don't have a title for it, though something like "Starsho...

Politics

I think politicians shouldn't be allowed to take large donations from corporate interests, and that financial transparency in politicians should be a rule, not a rare virtue. I think a combination of direct democracy (using the internet to vote directly on issues and to elect officials to carry out ...

The dust rings of Saturn frequently surprise me, even though I know they're there! So I'm really glad we'll be seeing them on procedural planets too. It adds a certain thrill to exploration when you find something where you previously thought there was nothing. Great job, Space Engineer!

Hi Creator78. Unfortunately, none of us in this thread work at SpaceX. It can be difficult to contact SpaceX because they are so popular that they receive a lot of communications. It can be hard for them to sift through all that noise to find a signal. Rest assured that they do keep abreast of the l...

Space chats with your friendly neighbourhood anthropologist!

Hi Danielle! I may come back here and give you a proper answer to your questions at some point, but for now, I thought you would be interested in the TMRO show , a weekly live-streamed talk show about all things space. I thought of it because your questions are very similar to the questions they ask...
