How galaxies/nebulae actually look.

15354 1. It seems like nebulae are going to be totally false color in the next version, which is disappointing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but those pictures don't give me an impression of realism. False color images of nebulae are pervasive, but false color does not necessarily mean wrong  color.  S...

No one needs to remember the whole list. You can just check to see what are the top 3 if you want.

If we're going to do that, why not make a poll and save everyone else the trouble of doing it too?

How galaxies/nebulae actually look.

I'm a bit concerned over Space Engine's representation of them... while making them look exactly how they would to the naked eye isn't feasible (or fun), I don't like the idea of seeing totally false colors or shapes. How realistic are the depictions? 1. It seems like nebulae are going to be totally...

Okay, this has to happen.

Mouthwash , l ol you steal 5 hours from SE development :) But the Universe has been converted to 30,000 sexdecilion paper clips... Five hours? I'm not as good at this game as I thought. I played this game for a little. It seems addicting if you continue... So, what's the point? Turning universe int...

Work progress - 0.9.9.0

How much does the recent work on terrain affect the actual shape of it? Like mountains and shorelines?

I found this badly deformed volcano:

Okay, this has to happen.

There's a fun new game out, and it's free to play! It also seems like a good fit for Space Engine. Because what's the point of having a universe to explore if you can't turn it all into paperclips?

Overheated ocean worlds.

RSC 10389-10378-3-173-19 B4 (in 0.980e). Warm oceania. Atmospheric pressure is 0.678 atm, average temperature is 116.38 Celsius. The reduced air pressure makes the boiling point lower , but the oceans have still not evaporated. Is there an explanation for this I don't understand? And if there isn't,...

Music Suggestions

A little too... I don't know, peppy, for my taste. Doesn't fit so well with the SE soundtrack.

My suggestions:

Infinity has some incredible music, but I doubt SE will be able to use it. So we'll just have to mod it in:

And here's some space-themed Bill Douglas:

General suggestions for SpaceEngine

Dawn and dusk colors ought to have much larger areas! I can see blue skies on Mars, but only when the Sun is juuust peeking over the horizon (which according to pictures, isn't accurate). Earth is much better though.

Could you smack into a planet traveling at max speed?

At speeds greater than light years per second, you have pretty much zero chance of hitting a planet, or even a star.

I don't care about the chances. Is it theoretically possible?

Could you smack into a planet traveling at max speed?

When I face the surface of a planet, crank speed up to max and move towards it, I just find myself in the space between galaxies. So I'd guess the answer is no... but maybe it's just too close? I doubt SE simulates the user actually moving through every centimeter of space, so maybe it 'skips' acros...

Science and Astronomy Questions

1. Is it conceivable for a universe to have different rules regarding entropy? I'm trying to imagine one where, instead of energy slowly running down, it stays exactly the same or builds up. What sort of adjustments would be necessary to make this happen? 2. What are some ideas of how sleep would wo...
