Unusual weather

Over the past two months my rain gauge has received 510 mm (27.7"), way above normal here on the dry side of the mountains.  And we haven't had a single day >=25C this year, the second time that has happened since I began measuring in 2004. Indeed a very chilly summer. Seems like southern Euro...

See that's exactly why I want us to do some sort of space-engineering to make these things last longer.

I think that would take the charm out of it.

I have a question for this forum. Do you guys think we should keep this at only recreations of real life photos, or should we also include recreations of artist renditions as well?

I think only real photos.

We have to learn to live without borders. If we want to survive. I have nothing against different cultures. On the contrary, this is one of the things we need to learn - to respect the different cultures. As far as the different languages are concerned, all people should speak the same language. (T...

12022 This is sad because nationalism have some benefits from some points of view, people is more motivated to work hard for their country. I think nationalism is wrong in every form. We must learn that we are not Germans or Italians or Russians or Americans, but that we are all human beings of one...

Spacer, I'm happy that you got to see the starry sky of the desert! Seeing a sky that dark is kind of addictive. :)

We are rooting for you all, looking forward for your reports, drawings, images, descriptions, anything.

In particular, I look forward to descriptions of the eclipse. I guess no picture nor video can ever describe the true beauty of a total eclipse.

I really envy you Americans (and non-Americans visiting the USA). I really look forward to seeing a live-stream of the eclipse, and of course all videos and photographs of the eclipse.

I really hope you guys get clear skies and wish you a great eclipse! :)

Speaking of the Bortle scale, how do I interpret this map:  darksitefinder ? It uses 15 degrees of darkness/brightness, while the Bortle scale uses only 9 degrees to my knowledge. Yeah that map is more detailed. The colors are the same, as far as I know. For example, blue is Bortle class 3, while d...

Spacer , I don't think that is an accurate image of how your naked eyes would see it, although I've "only" seen a bortle class 2 sky. The Milky Way is better seen and there are not quite as many stars visible, and those visible will be more brilliant. Also, there is less color saturation....

10551 they still have the closest mass ratio of the major planets Just because they're the closest doesn't mean they're close enough to be classed as binary. Earth is nearly two orders of magnitude more massive than the Moon. Do you really think they should be binary? Plus their barycenter is locat...
