Total Solar Eclipse 2017

Great HDR! That looks a very close match to how we saw it in Oregon. :)

Total Solar Eclipse 2017

Just got back to Hood River. Meeting with Midtskogen was rendered impossible due to network overload, but apparently we were very nearby. Totality was very exciting! Was concerned with a thick bank of wildfire smoke that slowly drifted in from the south and covered the sun and much of the sky during...

Made it to Madras and have set up camp. Unless the moon changes its orbit or explodes, there's no missing it now!

Whelp, we who are going to Oregon are not out of the woods completely: http://i.imgur.com/xIgXfAC.jpg The bad news:  That fire is only 80km southwest of Madras, is completely uncontained, and only just received FEMA funding to begin controlling it. The good news is the smoke is only thick very close...

Really cool video -- love the explanation of storm dynamics.  The power source for the storms on giant planets is very interesting!

Midtskogen , save this site on your phone -- I think it will be valuable when you make your drive up to Madras. http://www.briancrow.com/madras-central-oregon-traffic-cameras For the rest of you who are driving, try looking around online for traffic cameras around where you plan to be -- most inter...

I'm so glad you got to see it!  More and more people are living under light polluted skies, and living their whole lives without knowing what a dark sky looks like.  Everyone should get this experience at least once. :)

And that looks like an amazing place to see it from, too!  What a landscape!

Wow.   Researchers are predicting the shape of solar corona and how it will look to the eye on the 21st.   (Details and more very beautiful images on the site.) http://i.imgur.com/t4ZFMcS.jpg That looks quite a bit different from most photographs of the corona -- due to the very large dynamic range...

Total Solar Eclipse 2017

As bad as it might look for much of the country, I think there are still plenty of reasons to remain hopeful.  Some of that cloud is scattered rather than overcast, or high-level cirrus which won't completely obscure the Sun, or convection which, if not too big, may dissipate as the Sun goes away. ...

11800 i asked a meteorologist of my town about the weather where i am going. he said the chances for clouds are small but he said the humidity will be moderate, around 50%. i heard before that high humidity will ruin the show, but someone knows what the % of humidity is high enough to ruin the show...

the photo guy, oh, great, you've found the Moon from Majora's Mask:

72 hours remain until it crashes into Earth.  Nice job dooming us all.

http://i.imgur.com/HotSHmL.gif Neat way to visualize how the weather forecasts have narrowed down on a solution for eclipse day.  Each frame is the GFS forecast for the 500mb geopotential height (good indicator of jet stream behavior and cyclonic systems) for Monday at 18z, and on the right side, t...
