Solar System dynamics discussion thread

21292 But sadly this is a difficult topic. Jean-Babtiste Biot attempted to explain Le Verrier's methods in six papers he published in 1846 (just before the discovery) and in the third paper he wrote "As I progress in the task I have undertaken, the difficulty of the subject seems to increase&q...

Solar System dynamics discussion thread

One thing what I really want to know about celestial mechanics, is how transit timing variation method works. I mean in details: equations, and how they are linked to transiting exoplanets observation data processing. May it be similar to the method used by Le Verrier to predict Neptune's position? ...

Solar System dynamics discussion thread

Wow, why nobody linked this thread to me? (Sorry, I can't read the whole forum...) Watsisname , very good job in explaining the Mercury orbit!  I have a question though: is time/space dilation due to Mercury's velocity accounted in equations automatically, or its effect is simply negligible? Your po...

General questions about SpaceEngine

Release is expected this year on Steam. I can't give the exact date, because developing the app is not like building a road. Then you build a road, you may measure your average speed, say 1 mile per day, then divide the remaining distance onto this speed and obtain number of days left. Developing ap...

Scanning every star/planet in the SE universe?

20579 I would imagine the search always starts in the outer layers, otherwise if you've reached the 10K limit, it won't matter whether you select a radius of 20ly or 2000ly it would always find the same results closest to the viewer. No, searching order is "fractal", according on architec...

Qr Bbpost or just use my exported tileset (equirectangular not cube projection) straight into SE

You can stitch tiles together into a single equirectangular RAW image using the CubeMap tool, then use it again to convert in into cubemap.

Work progress 0.9.8.1 = 0.9.9.0

20446  I think you should be paid for your work, that's simple ethics. Cheers. This is why I pay so many attention to the Overview project (and I also have a contract oblications). Constellations are another side work, with ESO for planetarium version (it is another market for SE). All this side wo...

General suggestions for SpaceEngine

I already integrated this texture in SE. Also next Overview update will use it. its resolution is much greater, in Overview it has per-pixel quality in Vive and Rift.

The Gaia Mission

SE can't handle more than few million stars right now. I will rewrite the catalog stars octree so it will support dynamic loading of visible nodes only (just like procedural stars octree works). This way it will support unlimited number of stars, just like terrain engine supports unlimited resolutio...
