Greetings, here are some examples of raytraced sun/god rays and crepuscular rays to consider. This includes ray-marched clouds from a model analyzing actual 3-D cloud data.  http://stevealbers.net/albers/allsky/outerspace.html Here are a couple of updated images on how this looks at twilight from 1...

Space Engine - Solar/Lunar Eclipses

I've watched hundreds of sunsets in orbit. Like you can see in the picture in message 11, only the atmosphere closest to the planet appears red and when the sun is seen through that atmosphere it appears red. And here's a picture I took myself IMG_0869.png Thanks for posting your actual sunset pict...

It seems the red sunset can be helped by ducting as that would extend the path of the sun through the lower atmosphere allowing for more Rayleigh scattering. Refraction would be accordingly increased as well. A second factor to keep in mind is that any ozone reduction can increase the reds since ozo...

Sounds good. I've been working for a while with 3-D clouds derived from actual weather data and making the visualizations as physically realistic as I can. My software runs slowly though I'd be interested to try and implement parts of it as shaders.

Greetings, I'd like to share a few links to help discuss clouds and atmospheric modeling, both from within and above the Earth's atmosphere. Land surface is included too. Real 3-D cloud data are used when possible. slide2_78.jpg http://laps.noaa.gov/allsky/allsky.cgi (sky views from the ground) alls...
